If the authorities are so afraid of criticism that the secret services have to photograph a one-person demonstration whose only weapon is a banner with words on it and the police have to check his/her identity twice, then it shows that Polish/German authorities are frightened of even the most minimal hints of democracy and human rights.

Seems more like a success in “showing that the Emperor has no clothes on”. Even such small levels of resistance to authoritarianism can have effects, both by inspiring others and, when the message is so simple and powerful and difficult to ignore, creating cognitive dissonance in the ministers’ minds: they are trying to imagine themselves as responsible, realpolitik, etc. and are made by the message to imagine themselves fighting Afghan citizens…
